Type Locality and Naming

Along the Zoy Stream, Surkhan-Tau Range, southern slope of the Gissar Range. G.S. Chikryzov, Kh.V. Ryskina in 1948 (382, p. 56). Biostratotype in the valley of the Zoy Stream, in the southern part of the Surkhan-Tau Range.

Synonym: Zoyskaya Formation, Зойская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Basal conglomerates, sandstones, siltstone (aleurolites), argillites, and coaly-clayey shales with coal layers, locally dacites, liparites, and their tuffs. F.R. Bensh (102), S.Ya. Lapidus et al. (1961), E.D. Bezuglov et al. (1993) note acid tuffs in the formation. Thickness 350-550m.

Unconformably overlies ancient deposits

Upper contact

Unconformably overlain by the Vakhshivar Fm.

L.I. Savitskaya (395) considered the formation early Visean, G.S. Chikryzov, Kh.V. Ryskina (382) - Tournaisian. Age dated within the late Tournaisian-Visean early Carboniferous. (166; 460).
